Home-Start Bridgend has been supporting local families since 1997. Last year Home-Start’s 35 volunteers supported 90 children in 36 families. But countless families could not be supported because of lack of funds and the charity cannot keep up with demand for its support.

Home-Start Bridgend recently launched its first Snowflake Appeal , to raise funds for its work supporting children and families who are struggling to cope.

“Many young children face tragedy and hardship,” said Scheme Manager Lesley Evatt. “When families struggle to cope with illness, disability, bereavement, poor housing, mental ill health, or many of these problems at once, Home-Start supports them until they can stand on their own two feet again. ”

The Snowflake Appeal runs from 1 November until 31 January.

“The circumstances of each child and family are unique and fragile,” said Lesley. “And we tailor make our support to their unique needs. That is why we have a unique and fragile snowflake to represent the appeal”.

Home-Start Bridgend’s charity shop in Caroline Street, which celebrated its first birthday on 29th November, will be holding Snowflake fun events during December to coincide with the town’s events in the run up to Christmas. Shop Manager Jayne encourages all families to visit the shop. “Every Saturday, you can come and buy a Snowflake pin badge or buy a snowflake decoration to hang on our tree!”

All funds raised by their local Snowflake Appeal will go to help local children and families.
