HOME-START BRIDGEND VOLUNTEERS ARE UNPAID..
NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE WORTHLESS...
BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE PRICELESS......
All parents know that those early years before children go off to school are vital in a child's life and at Home-Start Bridgend we believe parents have the key role in creating a secure childhood for their children. Its just that sometimes they need a bit of help....
AS A VOLUNTEER WHAT WOULD I DO...
Usually you visit a family in their own homes once a week for a couple of hours. How you help is really down to the family itself. Some might need someone to talk to... Others may need more practical support with meal planning and cooking, reading to the children, going to the local park, or finding about and accessing local services such as Parent & Toddler, etc.
DO I NEED ANY QUALIFICATIONS TO BE A VOLUNTEER...
The only real 'qualification' is experience of bringing up children. Friendliness and a caring attitude are essential as well as an understanding of the pressures of parenting. We value people who don't judge others; people who will respect the fact that they have been invited into a family's home; people who will treat a mother or father as an equal.
WILL I RECEIVE TRAINING....
Yes, we give high priority to the recruitment, training and support of all our volunteers. You will be supported during your training and throughout your support for families.
Home-Start's Preparation Course is an ideal way to learn what volunteering for Home-Start Bridgend will involve and get to know the other volunteers and members of staff.
WHAT WOULD I GET OUT OF VOLUNTEERING FOR HOME-START BRIDGEND?
MONTHLY SUPPORT MEETINGS; a chance to chat with other volunteers and a member of staff about how your volunteering is going.
ONGOING TRAINING; we pride ourselves in continuing to provide any training identified by volunteers such as personal safety, drugs awareness, depression awareness, etc.
TELEPHONE SUPPORT; Your Scheme Manager will contact you on a regular basis to keep up to date with how your family support is going.
FUN; Not only is volunteering rewarding in itself, but we also arrange social get togethers such as; Christmas party, takeaway evenings, pamper evenings, etc.
Knowing you have helped; a boost to your self esteem and confidence; even a foot on the ladder towards a college course or employment.
Home-Start Bridgend's volunteers do not get paid for their time, however they will receive compensation for out of pocket expenses such as milleage, bus fare, telephone calls, etc.
